Mrs. Margaretta Sandner

F, b. March 1861

Mrs. Margaretta Sandner was born in March 1861 at Germany.1,2
Mrs. Margaretta Sandner was also known as Margaret C Hansen.1 She immigrated in 1883; The record does not show, but we assume she came directly from Germany. She may or may not have come with a husband. She appeared on the census of 1900 at Mount Olive, Macoupin Co., Illinois; By 1900 Margaretta Sandner was a widow with four of her 6 children surviving. Her eldest child was 13, her youngest age 5. She was not employed, suggesting that her husband was relatively recently deceased. She did not speak English, but could read and write.2 She appeared on the census of 1910; In the 1910 census, Margaret, still called Margurete had married Hans Hansen, also of Germany, She was still living in Mount Olive, Macoupin Co., Illinois, showed an immigration date of 1883 (matching 1900 census). None of her children were sharing the household. Herman is in Iowa, working as a servant in a Hansen household which may be related to his Hansen stepfather. Albert may be the 15 year old farm hand in a household of German-speaking Swiss farmers, althoug the birthpalce of this person and his mother are given as Ohio. She appeared on the census of 1920 as a 58-year-old mother in the household of Albert C Sandner and Maria (Ferretti) Sandner at Angels Camp, Calaveras Co., California.1
