     Harris M Smith was born on 27 July 1921 at Parker, Turner Co., South Dakota.2 He died on 8 June 2010 at Oakdale, Stanislaus Co., California, at age 88.3 He was buried at Divide Cemetery, Groveland, Tuolumne Co., CA.3
     Harris M Smith also went by the name of Tony Smith.2,4 As of 27 July 1921, Harris M Smith was also known as Harris Merel Smith.2

    Harris Merel Smith was a native of South Dakota. After graduating from Parker High School, he worked with his older brother to learn carpentry. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and served in Europe during World War II. He eventually moved from the Midwest to Southern California, where he married his high school sweetheart, Helen Cleland, and raised three daughters.
    In 1961, he and his family moved to Tuolumne County, where he worked as a general building contractor, including a remodeling of the Gunn House Hotel and construction of the Summit View Apartment complex. The family moved to Groveland in 1970 when he contracted with Boise Cascade to build a number of projects associated with the development of the Pine Mountain Lake subdivision and he continued to build homes in the Groveland area until his retirement in 2002.
    Mr. Smith is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Larry Moore, of Sonora, Vicki and Lew West, of Groveland, and Lori and Dan Delih, of Oakdale; three grandsons, seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
