     Virginia Hastings was born circa 1919.1 She died in June 2011 at Renton, Washington.1

She was a retired Seventh Day Adventist School teacher and practiced the CHIP .... long before the CHIP program was defined. Virginia was a dedicated CHIP alumna and was an active participant in all CHIP alumni activities, including hiking and roadside clean-ups. Even in her late eighteies, she throughly enjoyed hikes such as the "South Fork of the Tuolumne River" ... is forested, is about a mile and a half long and in the spring, has brilliant red snow flowers.

    The CHIP Alumni and friends will plant an "October Glory" Maple tree in memory of Virginia at ... regularly scheduled meeting on July 11th.

     Lester Potthast was born on 12 October 1921 at St Louis, Missouri.1 He was the son of William Potthast and Mrs. Mary Potthast.2 Lester Potthast died on 24 October 2011 at Green Gables Care Home, Fresno, Fresno Co., California, at age 90.1
     He was graduated from St Louis University. He served in the US Army (dates unknown.) He was employed in the insurance industry where he worked in both claims and sales. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and the Sierra Club.3 He lived between 1990 and 2010 at Groveland, Tuolumne Co., California; (dates estimated.)4

    Former Groveland resident Lester Potthast died Oct. 24 at Green Gables Care Home in Fresno. He was 90.
    Born outside of St. Louis, Mo., to William and Mary Potthast, he served in the U.S. Army and went on to graduate from St. Louis University.
    He worked in the insurance industry for 35 years, as a claims manager for Aetna Life and Casualty in Illinois and later in Fresno, then as a sales agent for Knights of Columbus in Fresno. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Serra Club.
    He lived in Groveland for more than 20 years, where he enjoyed playing golf at Pine Mountain Lake. He recently moved to Fresno.
    Mr. Potthast is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Patricia Potthast, of Fresno; children and their spouses, Matthew and Ellita Potthast, of Fresno, and Lucy and David Blalock, of Greenfield; grandchildren, Christopher and Jacob Blalock, and Joseph Potthast, all of Fresno, and Marie Valdez, of Santa Rosa; and two great-grandchildren.
    A rosary at noon Saturday will be followed by a funeral Mass at St. Paul Newman Center Catholic Church, 1572 E. Barstow Ave., Fresno.
    Donations can be made to the Serra Club of Fresno, c/o Sampson and Sampson, CPA, 3148 N. Willow Ave. No. 102, Clovis, CA 93612.
    Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns and Blair Funeral Home in Fresno is handling arrangements.

     Joseph Mangini was born in 1945 at Contra Costa Co., California.1,3 He was the son of Raymond Mangini and Margaret (Levada) Mangini.2 Joseph Mangini died on 30 September 2011 at Concord, Contra Costa Co., California.1
     He was cattle and horse ranche & Contra Costa Co. Water District. He lived at Mangini Ranch, Contra Costa Co., California;
By 2014, the 208 acre Mangini Ranch had been turned into a nature preserve in conjunction with other large parcels to which it is adjacent. It is part of the Preserve Mount Diablo movement. He was a member of the Concord Farm Bureau and Groveland Kiwanis.4 He served in the US Air Force (dates unknown.)5 He lived before 2011 at Clements Rd., Groveland, Tuolumne Co., California.
