     William Yates was born in 1858.1 He was born in June 1862 at Colorado; per 1900 census.2,3,4 He married Alice (Phelan) Yates, daughter of Michael Phelan and Hanora (Maher) Phelan McCormick, on 4 October 1899 at Sonora, Tuolumne Co., California.1,5 William Yates died in 1909.1 He was buried at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., California.1
     He and Alice (Phelan) Yates appeared on the census of 23 June 1900 at Township 3, Tuolumne Co., California.3 William Yates was in 1904 at Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., California.6 He Mrs. W. D. Yates and supervisor J. M. Phelan, wife and daughter, who were in town to attend the Phelan-Maguire wedding, returned Monday to their homes near Groveland.
