    Richard "Richie" De Jong died Aug. 2 died at the scene of an all-terrain vehicle accident in Moccasin. He was 38. Mr. De Jong lived in Moccasin for four years. He was a carpenter. His hobbies included camping, fishing, golf, riding around Lake Don Pedro in his boat, riding his all-terrain vehicle, racing his remote-control truck and tinkering in the garage. He helped pour and lay the concrete for the Groveland skate park.

    He is survived by his daughter, Katra Jeanne De Jong, of Oakdale; his mother, Vallory Jean De Jong, of Modesto; a sister, Kathleen De Jong, of Northern California; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

    A memorial service has already been held. A benefit will be held at a later date. (Union Democrat, 18 Aug 2008).

    Greeley Hill resident Elizabeth Z. Leslie died Saturday at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. She was 80.
    She was born Elizabeth Zelma Hagen in Wickenburg, Ariz. In 1947, she married Charles Lee Leslie, also of Arizona, and they raised six children.
    She lived on various ranches in Arizona, California and Nevada. She enjoyed cooking and cooked for the cowboys at a few of the ranches, helped her husband build fences, sometimes living in a tent while doing so, and ran to town for supplies over miles of dirt road.
    For much of the 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s, she and her husband lived in Mariposa and Tuolumne counties. She worked at a home for disabled children in Greeley Hill and at the Sierra Hospital and Tuolumne General Hospital in Sonora as a dietician and cook in the kitchen.
    She spent much of the 1980s in Jackson Hole, Wyo., and in the 1990s she moved to Lexington, Okla., where she lived until returning to Greeley Hill a year ago.
    Her family said she lived a cowpunchers life, enjoying the outdoors and the many ranches where she was born, raised, and worked. She also enjoyed watching the rodeo both in person and on television and never missed watching the World Series.
    Her hobbies included spending time with her many grandchildren and great- grandchildren, crocheting, enjoying the outdoors, especially her love of hummingbirds, and her little dog.
    She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Carol Leslie of Sonora; daughters, Linda Amos of Greeley Hill, Bessie Maxwell of Show Low, Ariz., Barbara Leslie of Lubbock, Texas, and Jackie Kent of Greeley Hill; grandchildren, Preston Leslie and Laura Leslie of Sonora, Jess Leslie, Joy La Rae, Linda Kent, Bernie Wackerman, and Lacey Ericsson of Arizona, Leslie Kent, Matt Amos, Clay Amos, and Mark Amos of Groveland, Selby Stephens of New Mexico, Shank Stephens of Oklahoma, Desiree Spence of Lubbock, John Kent of Greeley Hill, Donnie Wackerman of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law of Independence.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lee Leslie; her son, Jess Leslie; her parents, Ben and Dorothy Hagen; and her siblings, Jim, Tom, Honey, and Dorothy Hagen.
    Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Terzich and Wilson.

    Big Oak Flat resident Betty Jean Autrey died Nov. 16 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 84.
    Born in Wilmington, Ohio, to Howard and Alberta Brewer, she was the oldest of three children. She married Thomas Jenkins in 1943 and the couple moved to Pomona in the 1950s. They moved to Big Oak Flat in 1964, where they owned the Miners Resort Restaurant and Pigg’s Market grocery store. Her husband died in 1970.
    She worked as a seamstress, milk-carton maker and waitress in Southern California. At one time, she worked at the Mountain River Lodge in Jacksonville, near Don Pedro, where she met her second husband, Henry Autrey.
    She was an active member in the Big Oak Rebekah Lodge for more than 40 years. She enjoyed all types of crafts and spending time with her friends at the Little House Senior Program in Groveland.
    She is survived by her children and stepchildren, Pamela Jenkins, of Groveland, Denise Brooks, of Dana Point, Denell Massey, of Sacramento, Donna Vierra, of Turlock, Randy Brooks, of Groveland, Ranny Autrey, of Reno, Nev., and Terry Autrey, of Denair; siblings, Martha Brewer, of Cooper Landing, Alaska; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husbands, Tom Jenkins and Henry Autrey; children, Robert Lee Jenkins and Carolyn Ann Forrest; stepson, Danny Autrey; sister, Donna Mason; and parents, Howard and Alberta Brewer.
    Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Heuton Memorial Chapel. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Groveland Evangelical Free Church, 19172 Ferretti Road.
