Charlie and Jeanette lived in the Irvington District, Alameda County, per Jeanette Jansen to Ray and Bonnie Stevens.4 Jeanette (Porter) Jansen died on 5 December 1988 at Tuolumne Co., California, at age 79.2,3 She was buried at Divide Cemetery 2:707-4A, Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., California.2
Jeanette (Porter) Jansen was also known as Jeanette E. Jansen.2 She and Stella (Nickles) Levada were Jeannette often talked about how she and Charlie brought Stella to Groveland, but never explained the relationship between Stella and the Jansens. She also talked frequently about her mother and occasionally about her step-father. But she never referred to Stella as her own mother, nor did she mention her step-father's surname. Jeanette (Porter) Jansen was born on 4 August 1909.3 She appeared on the census of 1930 as a 20-year-old step-daughter in the household of John E Levada and Stella (Nickles) Levada at Irvington District, Alameda Co., California. Jeannette was working as a bookkeeper.1 Jeanette (Porter) Jansen appeared on the census of 1940 in the household of Charles Jansen Jr. at San Leandro, Alameda Co., CA.5 Charlie and Jeannette Jansen moved from the Irvington District, Alameda Co. to Groveland in the early 1950's -- possibly late 1940's. They bought a lot on Back Street behind the Iron Door Saloon from T Wesley Osborne, and had him build them a house which was their home for most of the rest of their lives. By 1977, Jeanette was a widow. When the weather was warm, she spent most of her days sitting on her front porch people watching, reading romance novels, and drinking Buckhorn beer. Exercise was walking down the alley across from her driveway to the Post Office, then located on Main Street between the Mobile Gas Station and the Charlotte Hotel. She did most of her shopping at Tiano's Market, which by the mid-1970's occupied the historic Raboul Store adobe. In the winter, Jeannette sat at her kitchen table in front of her wood stove, and added carrying wood to her exercise list. Jeannette loved to cook, especially large pots of beans, cupcakes for Halloween (her favorite holiday, partly because it had been Charlie's favorite holiday), and lemon merangue pies. She did not drive, and depended on others to take her shopping or run other errands. She was a tiny woman, and Lou Anderson referred to her as "Little One". Lou's mother-in-law, Millie Anderson, lived next door to Jeannette on Back Street. Jeanette and Millie were close friends; Brief Bio: by Jeannette (Porter) Jansen to Ray and Bonnie Stevens (BStevens 2014.)
