He (H L ARGALL) applied for a British Passport on May 24th 1878. He had
moved with his family to the United States around 1878. He was in Butte,
Montana for some years, where he married and at least one child was born
there. On 27 December 1883, the Butte DAILY MINER Newpaper records Harry
Argall as winning $20 in a wheelbarrow race as part of the Christmas
Festivities, by defeating five opponents in three races. Was involved in
an action in 1908 in the US Supreme Court between the Yosemite Gold
Mining and Milling Co, and E L Emerson, Mrs A L Emerson, FF Britton,
Jacoib Miller, F L Argall and Harry Argall, argued 13 Dec 1907 and
Decided 6 Jan 1908. The action concerned a mining claim over the Slap
Jack Mine in Tuolumne Co., CA.

Mariposa Gazette, September 28, 1944: Harry L. Argall, 87, Prominent
County Miner, Taken by Death Services were held at the Tiscornia, Ivers
and Alcorn funeral chapel in Mariposa Monday afternoon at four o'clock
for Henry (Harry) L. Argall, 87, of Cathey's Valley, who died at the
Madera hospital on Friday morning of last week. The services were
conducted by Rev. Harold Coleman, pastor of the Mariposa Methodist
Church. Interment was in the Mariposa public cemetery. Mr. Argall was a
native of New Jersey but came to California when a young man. He was a
resident of Coulterville when that town was a thriving gold mining
center in the 90's. He also operated mines in the Groveland and Red
Cloud districts. Several years ago he and his family moved to Mariposa
to reside in order that the children would have the advantages of
schools. Later they moved to Cathey's Valley where he and Mrs. Argall
conducted a store and the post office the past several years. Mr. Argall
was a good friend, a staunch citizen and a friendly neighbor. He had a
wide circle of friends throughout the state who will mourn his passing
after a useful life of four score and seven years. Surviving beside the
widow are three sons, Walter J. Argall with the U. S. Army in San
Francisco, Francis Argall of Los Angeles and Homer Argall of Modesto;
one daughter, Mrs Edna M. Day of Fresno and a brother, Frank L. Argall
of Fresno.
