    He was born in Coalinga, Fresno county. He was retired from the Air Force and the Navy for 21 years. He worked as a cook for three years and as an ammunition supply clerk for 18.
    He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9474 of Coulterville, American Legion No. 94 of Sonora, the Non-Commissioned Officers Association and the Korean Veteran's Association of Sonora. He collected model cars and loved yard sales. Mr. Swanson is survived by his wife, Joanna Swanson of Sonora; caretaker, Leroy Gipson of Buck Meadows; son, James Swanson of San Jose; daughter, Signa Duffell of Chicago; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
    A private service will be held at a later date.
    The Neptune Society of Central California, Modesto, will be handling arrangements.

He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a dive bomber pilot on the aircraft carriers USS Hornet and USS Shangri-La. He was a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles. He married his wife, Ardell, in 1949 and they raised their sons, Mike and Greg, in Garden Grove. He worked in the aerospace industry for Northrop until he retired in 1982 and moved to Pine Mountain Lake.
    A devoted father and husband, he cared after his wife during her years with Alzheimer's Disease.
    Mr. Ransom is survived by his brother, Lawrence Ransom of Pasadena; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Debbie Ransom of Huntington Beach, and Greg and Lisa Ransom of Seattle; and grandchildren, Courtney and Parker Ransom and Trevor, Megan and Emily Ranson.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardell Ransom; a brother, Robert Ranson; and parents, Harry and Alma Ransom.
    A service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at the Pine Mountain Lake Lodge in Groveland. In lieu of flowers, and at the family's request, donations can be made in his memory to a favorite charity.

He was loving caregiver for his wife during her years with Alzheimer's Disease. He was a friend to many and his friends and family will miss his big heart, sense of humor and devotion.     He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Church of Latter-day Saints in Groveland and of the Brothers of Third wheels motorcycle club. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the U.S. Navy. He loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

As a young mother raising a family in Kerman, CA, Audrey was involved in the community in many ways; as a Sunday School Teacher, Cub Scout Den Mother, an active PTA member, an as a volunteer for LARC.
    Following retirement she and her husband moved from Kerman, CA to Groveland, CA, where she soon became a member of the Volunteer Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) at the Sonora Community Hospital for several years. Audrey's brightest joy was her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
    She is survived by her husband of 62 years, John C. Leslie Sr., of Jamestown, CA; son, John C. Leslie Jr., (Patricia) of St. Augustine, FL and daughter Lana Antonelis (George) of Kailua, Oahu, HI; grandchildren: Jay C. Leslie (Tanya) of Burlingame, CA, Jill a Walker, of Modesto, CA, Troy A. Antonelis (Brandy) of Kailua, Oahu, HI and Kyle L. Antonelis of Monterey, CA; great-grandchildren: Bryce C. Walker, Branden P. Walker and Brady J. Walker, all of Modesto and Nora J. Groveland resident Karen Kimmerle died Saturday at a Sonora Hospital. She was 66.
She was born in Fayette, Iowa to Orville and Wilma Walters.
She raised her sons in Long Grove, Iowa, and, after they joined the Navy in 1991, she moved to California to be closer to them. She was employed at Sears in Hayward for many years before retiring to Groveland earlier this year. She was also an active member of the San Lorenzo Community Church, singing in the choir and serving as a member of the board.
Mrs. Kimmerle is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Lori Kimmerle, of East Meredith, N.Y; grandchildren, Julie, Nicole and Justin Kimmerle, all of Groveland; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Don Garreston of Bettendorf, Iowa; brother and sister-in-law, Marty and Leslie Walters of Makoti, N.D; sister-in-law Nancy Walters of Bettendorf; best friend, Alta Brown of Colorado Springs, Colo; caregivers and friends, Kristine and Brian Merritt; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, Darwin; son, Dan Kimmerle, in 2004; a brother, Curt Walters, in 2005; a niece, Janel Anderson, in 2000; and her parents.

    Groveland resident Bobby Lee Merritt died Dec. 27 at his son's home in Groveland. He was 76. He was born Dec. 24 in Montana to Harry and Caroline Merritt. He joined the Navy in 1948 and attended Annapolis Military Academy. He was discharged in 1950. He worked as a salesman. Before moving to Groveland, he had lived in Hayward for many years. Mr. Merritt is survived by his sons, Brian Merritt and his wife Kristine of Groveland and Kevin Merritt of Hayward; twin sister, Betty; grandchildren, Bonnie and her husband George Derieg, and Adam, Sarah, Julie, Nicole and Justin Merritt.

    He was born and raised in Berkeley, served four years in the U.S. Air Force and received a degree in international relations from San Francisco State University. For 34 years, he worked for State Farm Insurance in the claims department in Monterey, Santa Cruz and Santa Clara counties, retiring to Pine Mountain Lake in 1994.
    He was a member of the board of directors of the Southern Tuolumne County Historical Society, operations coordinator and member of the advisory committee of the Groveland Yosemite Gateway Museum, member of Groveland Rotary Club, and active in the Pinecone Players theatrical group. He was an avid traveler, having visited 70 countries on six continents.
    Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Nancy Jones of Groveland; daughters, Cathryn Rohr of Palmdale and Cindy Fox of Modesto; stepson, Matthew Norwood of Santa Cruz; stepdaughter, Mary Norwood of Denver; and seven grandchildren.

During his life, his many occupations included being a working cowboy, rodeo cowboy, bronco buster, United Airline machinist, correctional officer at Deuel Vocational Institution in Tracy, and a casino/hotel security officer for the last 25 years at the MGM, Bally and Reno Hilton.
    During the summers, he worked at Kennedy Meadows Pack Station for several years, as well as for different ranchers. He also attained the lieutenant rank as an officer in the U.S. Army Air corps, and was a World War II veteran. He had lived in several western states and had recently returned to California.

    Groveland resident Nance Lou Deardorff died Friday at a Modesto hospital. She was 72. She was born in Oakland, and moved to Seattle in the mid 1950's. She later lived in San Diego and San Jose before moving to Groveland in 1999.
    She eared a bachelor's degree in business from San Jose State in 1983, and attended Hastings Law School before moving to Spain for a year, beginning a life-long passion for travel.
    She worked in banking and for several law firms as an office manager. In the late 70's, she participated in a program at NASA at Moffett Field undergoing testing that allowed women to travel to space. In 1984, she got her private pilot's license. In Groveland, she was active in many Pine Mountain Lake groups.
    She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Arthur; children, Suzanne Wallace of Port Orchard, Wash., and Tony Wallace of San Jose; sisters, Holly Hunt, Patsy Wood, Terry Wood and Wendy Wood of Reno; several nieces and nephews, and by many friends in Groveland and other places.
    A memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday at Groveland Evangelical Free Church, at 19172 Ferretti Road.

    They moved to Hayward in 1959 and owned a second home at Pine Mountain Lake in Groveland since 1974.
    She decorated both homes in shades of blue. Other interests included dancing to the music of the 1950s.
    Mrs. Williams is the daughter of "Fred" Oier of Norway and Emmy Hegberg of Sweden.
    She was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. George Oier of Oakland, and her sister, Mildred Hamm of Santa Rosa.
    In addition to her husband, Mrs. Williams is survived by her son, Tom, and his companion, Kimberly Francis of Tracy; and her daughter, Diane, of Hayward; and granddaughters Angie and Jenny Sommer; and her lifelong friend, Marge "Sis" McCoy of Oakdale.

    Longtime Groveland resident Vivian Joanne (Romesha) Amos died of cancer Wednesday at a Sonora hospital. She was 69.
    Born in Modesto, Mrs. Amos lived in Groveland for 35 years. She was a longtime member of the Rebekahs and enjoyed hot rods, gardening, crocheting and sewing.
    She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ken Amos of Groveland; sons, Kevin Amos of Angels Camp, and Kenny and Kurt Amos of Iowa; and six grandchildren.
    She is preceded in death by her brother, Floyd Romesha Jr.; and her parents, Floyd and Vivian Romesha.
    A celebration of life will be held by the Rebekahs at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Odd Fellows Hall in Big Oak Flat.

    She was born in Santa Cruz and moved Groveland give years ago. She was a senior at Tioga High School and received the April student of the month award. She enjoyed art, writing, music, jet skiing, camping and spending time with her family and friends. She also like to help her dad work on his classic Volkswagen and enjoyed going to the beach in Santa Cruz. She had planned on returned to cosmetology school.
    She is survived by her parents, Ricky and Charlotte Rovera of Groveland; grandparents, Louis and Virginia Rovera of Groveland and Joaquin and Bonnie Menezes of Capitola, Santa Cruz County; her great-grandmother, thelma Wood of Hawaii; her boyfriend, Dylan Moriarty of Groveland; aunts, Charlene Gallucci of Martinez, contra Costa County, Kathy Bokariza of Arnold, Debra R. DeVincenzi of Big Oak flat; her uncle, Dino Rovera of Arnold; and cousins, Matthew and Ethan Gallucci of Martinez, Deann Neff and gina Bokariza of Santa Cruz, Wyatt Rovera of Arnold and Garrett Rovera of Chandler, Ariz.
    In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name can be made to a favorite charity.
