    La Grange resident Leslie "Les" Blair Martin died April 21 at his daughter's home in La Grange. He was 82. He was born in San Diego. He graduated from Hilmar High School in 1940. He had lived in Newman, Stanislaus County, for 40 years and then moved to Surprise, Ariz.; where he lived for 10 years. He later moved back to California and had most recently lived in La Grange since March. He worked as a mechanic for Golden State Creamery, Foremost Creamery and Avoset Creamery for 50 years. His hobbies included woodworking and he previously had a pilot's license.
    Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lily Martin of La Grange; daughters, Bonnie Blumenstein of Turlock and Linda Martin of La Grange; grandchildren, Cory Thurlow of Turlock, Shannon Overcash of LaGrange and Buffy Rhodes of Vacaville; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Russell Martin of Turlock; and a sister, Frances Martin of Turlock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lena Martin.
    A graveside service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hills Ferry Cemetery, 1334 W. Stuhr Road, Newman.

    She is survived by her partner, Ken Orloff of Groveland; a son and daughter-in-law, Curt and Dana Carney of Gilroy; daughters and son-in-law, Susan and Brian Siljander of San Diego, and Marie Carney of San Francisco; a daughter-in-law, Kim Carney of San Jose; a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Allen Strasser of New Hampshire; and grandchildren, Ben Carney of gilroy, Joey and Sammy Carney, both of San Jose, and Tristan and Nicolas Siljander, both of San Diego.
    She was preceded in death by her son, David Carney, who died April 26, 2005, of leukemia.

She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was elected Volunteer of the Year by the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors in the 1900s. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, writing, fishing and loafing.

He spent much of his time at his mountain home.
    He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from his Business as an electrical contractor in 1986. His interests included sharing time between both of his homes.
    Mr. Carr is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marian "Marilu" Carr, of Alameda; and nieces, roberta Johnson, of San Diego, Linda Searcy, of Bellevue, Texas, and Cheryl Pasqual, of Livermore, and their families.

    Former Greeley Hill resident Agnes Christensen died July 11 at her home in Sonora. She was 82.
    She was born in a farmhouse built by her father near Everest, In Atchison county, Kan. she was the youngest of seven children born to Torkel Bartenius Torkelson and Lillit Ruth Hart Torkelson.
    She received her early education in a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Enterprise Academy in 1942. She went on to Union college in Nebraska where she took the prerequisites for nursing. At Enterprise, she met Ken Christensen who also attended Union College. they were married on June 6, 1942, in the same house where she was born and raised. the couple spent time apart while her husband served in the U.S. Navy. they lived in Lincoln, Neb., while her husband completed his education.
    In September 1951, the Christensen family moved to Platte Valley Academy in Central Nebraska. they moved to California in 1957 and lived in West Covina for 30 years.
    She was a homemaker and also served as an accountant at the White Memorial School and later at San Gabriel Academy, both in the Los Angeles area. When her husband was transferred, she took a job working for a doctor in West Covina.
    She and her husband retired in 1987 to Greeley Hill where she worked with children at the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was also involved in community and church work, serving as a church elder and Adult Sabbath School teacher for a number of years. In February 2000, they moved to Sonora.
    She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ken Christensen; her sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis & Linda Christensen of Marysville, David Christensen of Camp Council, Idaho, and Ken Jr. and sherry Christensen of Loma Linda; grandchildren and their spouses, Lori and JC Urban, Lisa and Brent Hardinge, Shawn and Ashley Christensen, and Jasen Christensen; a great-grandson, Kyle Hardinge; and three brothers, Fred, Ted and Oscar Torkelson.

    Former longtime Tuolumne County resident Gordon C. Tyler died July 25 at his home in Quitman, Ark. He was 70.
    He was born in Quitman. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in Antarctica in Operation Deepfreeze I - a series of scientific expeditions to Antarctica in 1955 and 1956. He worked with the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department and was constable of Jamestown. He had lived in Tuolumne county for 25 years, and had lived in Groveland and mostly in Jamestown. He moved back to Arkansas, where he lived for five years.
    Mr. Tyler is survived by his daughter, Christy A. Tyler of Waynesville, N.D.; four sisters of Arkansas; a brother of Arkansas; and a brother of Michigan.

    They married July 27, 1947 in San Rafael, CA. they were married 46 years before Jim's death in 1993. They had one child, a girl named Verna, born Sept. 1949. Verna had a son Lytton in 1933 from a previous marriage.
    Mr. & Mrs. Lynch lived in Reinert Park, CA before retiring to Groveland in 1984. Mr. Lynch was a news carrier for the San Francisco Examiner for 30 years, mostly in Petaluma, CA. Mrs. Lynch was a housewife.
    Both were members of the Northern Mariposa County History Center from 1984 until 1993, and both also played cooks in the kitchen at the monthly breakfast in Coulterville for several years prior to Jimmy's death.
    Verna's main hobbies were china painting and making porcelain dolls in which the dolls were raffled off a couple of times during the Christmas holidays for several years. Verna also made velvet elves one year and other things during the course of their membership to be sold at the Christmas Fairs in Coulterville.
    Jimmy Lynch took ill in 1993 and passed away Sept. 22, of that same year at the age of 72 years in Sonora.
    Mrs. Lynch remained in Groveland until the summer of 1999 in which she relocated to Sonora Hills, Sonora, CA to be closer to shopping and doctors. She remained in her home there until August 2003 in which she suffered a stroke the following month while visiting her daughter Verna in Elk Grove CA.
    Mrs. Lynch then took residence at Elk Grove Care and Rehab Center in Elk Grove near her daughter's residence. Up until the last month of Mrs. Lynch's life, she remained active and was able to get out occasionally and visit with friends and family. Mostly though to go out to eat. She hated the hospital food so would opt at any opportunity to eat at any local restaurant.
    Mrs. Lynch took very ill suddenly and passed away quietly on July 28, 2004 with her daughter and son-in-law by her side. She was 92 years old. Jimmy and Verna are both survived by their daughter Verna and son Lytton.
    Both Jimmy and Verna lead full and wonderful lives and made a lot of friends through the years. They closest friends were George and Ruby Krizek with whom they did many things with through the years.

    She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family and reading the Bible.

    La Grange resident Craig W. Hofmann died Sunday at his home of natural causes. He was 54.
    He was born in Los Angeles and grew up in the Southwest. He graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor's degree in business. He had a varied career after college. He worked in home building and for Ameron, Inc.; in Phoenix and Saudi Arabia.
    Underground Construction in California, and as a telephone technician at SBC in Sonora for the past 15 years. He had a Class A contractor's license and a Realtor's license. As a hobby, he worked trying to reopen an old mine on Highway 49 for the past two years with his partner, Ron Lundrigan, of Sonora. He loved his relocation to the Mother Lode. He enjoyed the wildlife, country and weather. He had lived in La Grange for eight years.
    He was a member and range officer of the Mother Lode Gun Club and competed in the master class division through the club. He enjoyed water skiing, shooting, mining, boating, fishing, remodeling, camping and archaeology.
    Mr. Hoffman is survived by his wife, Roberta Hofmann, of La Grange; parents, Hugh and Jois Hofmann, of La Habra Heights, Orange County; a brother-in-law, David V. Blauvelt, of Santa Ana; a sister, Jois Katrine Hofmann, of Santa Ana; a foster sister, Carol Lee Krantz, of Las Vegas; and a nephew, David Craig Hofmann, of Santa Anta.
    A celebration of life is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday at the Hofmann home. Donations can be made to American Cancer Society, 1604 Ford Ave., Suite 8, Modesto, CA 95350 for Tuolumne county.

    Longtime Don Pedro resident Albert C. "Buddy" Sipe died Monday at his home. He was 48.
    He was born in Oakdale and had lived in the Don Pedro area for 35 years. He managed the boat repair building at the Lake Don Pedro Marina for 14 years, then founded and for the last 16 years operated Sipe's Marine & Boat Storage.
    Mr. Sipe is survived by his wife, Judy Sipe, of don Pedro; sons, Brian Sipe and Kenneth Sipe, both of Don Pedro; sisters, Darlene Aschwanden, of Turlock, and Pamela Sipe, of Rock Springs, Wyo.; and a brother, Steven Sipe, of Sonora.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Louis A. Sipe.

    Chinese Camp resident Patty Gene Palmer died Tuesday at her home after a long bout with cancer. She was 68. She was born in Avis, N.M. She moved to Redding with her parents where she met her future husband, Carl Palmer, at a dance. He was just returned from a U.S. Army hitch in Korea. She was a school buss driver, teacher's aide, cafeteria cook and homemaker. She lived in Chinese Camp for seven years.
    She enjoyed raising her children, spending time with her grandchildren and gardening. She was an avid artist and sculptor, and enjoyed having her home filled with oil and water color paintings.
    She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Carl "Bud" Palmer, of Chinese Camp; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Janet Palmer, of Escalon, and Sam and Nancy Palmer, of Oakdale; daughters, Cindy Bailey, of chinese Camp, and Lisa Mattson, of Angels Camp; her mother, Pearl Dourghty, of Chinese Camp; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Cecil Kimble, of Cedarville, Modoc County; and several families of adopted children who she welcomed into her family. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Palmer, and lifelong friend and sister-in-law, Barbara Palmer.
    Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. Visitation is scheduled from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Following the service, burial is scheduled at Burwood Cemetery, 28320 E. River Road in Escalon. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

    On September 15, 2005, James Robert Hunt entered Heaven as he was surrounded by his family at their home in Groveland. Born in Ojai, CA. Jim graduated from Nordoff High School in 1952. He received a BS at UC Santa Barbara and a Masters at San Jose State University. He taught at the Campbell Union High School District for 38 years and coached tennis for 10 years. Jim has a passion for flying that he passed on to his grandchildren. He flew all over North America and was most proud of flying to Point Barrow, Alaska. He was a great storyteller and loved to talk about WWII, aviation heroes and his childhood adventures in Ojai.
    Jim is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sharon. He also leaves his daughter Janet Kohl her husband Pat, grandsons Dylan, Tanner, and Riley of San Jose. In Virginia, he leaves his daughter Jill Stelfox, her husband Steven and grandchildren, Shelby and Jarred. In New Mexico, he leaves his daughter Julie Casteneda and her husband, Anthony. In Fremont, CA, he leaves his daughter Jennifer Javier, her husband Tony and grandsons, Jarred, Jaden, and Nathan. In Ojai, Jim is survived by his brother Harry Hunt and his wife Vesta.
