Big Oak Flat resident Florence Rossman died April 1 at her son’s home in Jamestown. She was 87.
Mrs. Rossman was born and raised in Stayton, Ore. She attended Linfield College in McMinnvile, Ore., and continued studies in Oakland. Mrs. Rossman was then a Tuolumne County resident for nearly 62 years.
She spent most of her life as a homemaker and volunteered to play piano for local school musical programs. She taught many to how to read music and play the piano, and played for numerous weddings, community functions, and most Sunday services at her church.
Mrs. Rossman enjoyed picking flowers from her yard and creating flower bouquets, and bringing people to church services. She was a member of the Buck Meadows Church and First Baptist Church in Big Oak Flat and helped build that church with her husband in the early 1970s.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edwin Holm; sister, Irene Kelm; and brother, Orville Poole.
Mrs. Rossman is survived by her husband, Ray Rossman, of Big Oak Flat; daughters, Ellen Deason, of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Evelyn Peoples, of Big Oak Flat; sons, Ray Holm, of Jamestown, Ronnie Holm, of Corning, and Randy Rossman, of Orland; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Ellen Fehlen, of Sublimity, Ore., and Agnes Grover, of Stayton, Ore.
A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. April 20 at the First Baptist Church, 11347 Wards Ferry Road, Big Oak Flat.

Edwin Holm married Florence Ladene (Poole) Holm Rossman.1 Edwin Holm died; It is presumed that Florence Holm was widowed, not divorced, and that her first husband therefore died before she married Ray Rossman in 1964.

Former Pine Mountain Lake resident Louis Elsworth ‘Lou’ Fricke Sr. died April 13 in a nursing home in Sunland in Los Angeles County. He was 80. Mr. Fricke was born in Rogers, Minn., to Louis and Florence (Fehn) Fricke. He served in the U.S. Navy four years.
He married Anna Artone in 1956 in Minnesota. Mr. Fricke moved with his family to Southern California to work at Honeywell/Lockheed in 1963. He owned and operated Air Champion, Inc., a heating and air conditioning company in the Santa Clarita valley for more than 44 years. Mr. Fricke spent every weekend at his home in Pine Mountain Lake for the past 25 years.
He volunteered for CONCERN, Boy Scouts of America and Eucharistic Ministry. He also worked with religious services and activities and with orphanages in Mexico. Mr. Fricke enjoyed flying his airplanes, experiencing nature at his home in Pine Mountain Lake, riding his bicycle, and chocolate.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Eileen Ericson, Alroy Fricke, Kathleen Vorderer and Justin Fricke.
Mr. Fricke is survived by his children, Susan Artone-Fricke, of Denver, Colo., Jim Fricke, of Saugus, Dan Fricke, of Castaic, Dennis Fricke, of Newhall, Kathleen Walk, of Castaic, Louie Fricke Jr., of Valencia, and Judy Hechavarria, of Valencia; siblings, Harlen Fricke and Pauline Savitsky, both of Minneapolis, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and an ex-wife, Anna Fricke, of Valencia.
A Rosary will be held at 11 a.m., with a Mass following at 11:30 a.m., on May 17 at Saint Kateri Catholic Church, 22508 Copper Hill Drive, Saugus. A celebration of life will follow at Westridge Community Recreation Center, 27200 Sycamore Meadow Drive, Stevenson Ranch. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 207 E. Mr. Gschwend was born in Pocahontas, Ark., to Mary (Zosso) and Jerome P. Gschwend.
He joined the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1944 and served one year. Mr. Gschwend attended Chaffey Junior College and then Mount San Antonio Junior College, where he met his future wife, Phyllis Jenkins. He then graduated from Pomona College. Mr. Gschwend went to work as a chemist for the California Department of Food and Agriculture and lived in Riverside. He then worked for Fibreboard in Antioch for the rest of his career.
Mr. Gschwend was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He enjoyed sports, fishing, boating, golfing, camping, RV travelling, abalone diving, square dancing, playing cards and handiwork.
Mr. Gschwend was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerome Gschwend, in 2001; and grandson, Nathan Gschwend, in 1998.
