Harold Herbert Kitchel, Jr. died Jan. 1, in his motor home in Groveland. He was 82.

Mr. Kitchel was a member of the Livingston United Methodist Church, and occasionally filled the pulpit as a lay speaker. He enjoyed caring for all livestock since high school and was an expert at showing, judging, and selecting sheep, according to family members. He raised up to 2,000 head of sheep yearly, in the Fort Ord area, and supported the Heifer Project by donation of livestock.
He is survived by wife Joy “Overstreet” Phillips Kitchel, of the Lake Don Pedro area; brother, David Kitchel, of Mt. View; sister, Mary Kitchel Kost, of Minneapolis, Minn.; sons, Charles Kitchel, of Whitethorn in Humboldt County, and John Kitchel, of Visalia; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Mrs. Kitchel’s sons and their partners, Robert Phillips and Lisa Blackwell, of Merced, Randell Phillips and Joyce Scola, of La Grange; and daughter, Valerie Hayward Adams and husband David Adams, of Elkton, Md.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date..

Former Tuolumne County resident Gordon Thomas Stevens Sr. died Dec. 19 at his home in Cameron Park. He was 73.
Mr. Stevens was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Carol and Claude Goldney. He was given the name Stevens after his grandfather’s first name.
Mr. Stevens moved to Sacramento with family when he was 16.
He worked in the produce industry in the Sacramento area for 30 years, owning a few of his own businesses. He also worked at the Thousand Trails Campground near Yosemite National Park for a year and decided to move to Groveland.
He lived in Tuolumne County for 13 years. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and Goodwill. He enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with family. He especially liked to volunteer for children’s activities, family members said.
Mr. Stevens is survived by his children, Deborah Butler, of Shingle Springs, Gordon Stevens Jr., of Sacramento, Jason Stevens, of Sacramento, Christopher Stevens, of Texas; a brother, Kenneth Stevens, of Rancho Cordova; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and an ex-wife.
Burial will be private at Oak Grove Cemetery in Groveland.
