Charles A. Sachse was born circa 1859 at Germany.1
     He Brief Bio:

11/2019

According to Dave Gookin Charles Sachse once lived on what is now known as Clinton Road, South of Ferretti Road.

He believes Sachse's land was sold to someone by the name of Clinton and it's possible that the tumbled down house that once stood there was the Clinton's ranch house.

"The De Ferrari Family - Memories of Times Past," by Carlo DeFerrari
pgs 107, 237 & 238

...in the area was an old German named Charlie Sachse who had lived there in a small cabin for years. Otis Rosasco told me that his father, Ed, said that he had come to the county as a young man who had been trained to make surgical instruments in the Old Country. Once he saw the high country, he never returned to his hative land but lived among the mountains and trees for the rest of his life. He also had a ranch down on the old Ferretti Road east of Groveland, but just let the house go to ruin and be used as a shelter for livestock. In the mountains he had a small ditch which carried water from the creek to his cabin and garden. He was quite content with the life he led.

A road extended southerly across Long Gulch and the old Watson Ranch, and it was possible to drive through to State Highway 120. In the other direction the road ran north to intersect the Charles Sachse Ranch beside the Ferretti Road.

Otis Rosasco sid that his father told him that Sachse had been a manufacturer of urgical instruments in Germany. He had come to the county on a visit and like it so much that he remained permanently. Sachse lived in a cabin in the mountains below Jawbone reek, and I remember seeing a small ditrch which ran from the creek down to his cabin and garden. There was an abandoned home on his old ranch which was open to sheep and other livestock and in poor condition, After World War II it was acquired by Vance Clinton and his wife, Consuelo, and renovated. Later, the Clintons had a home on Racetrack Road near Sonora and were active in the Tuolumne County Historical Society.

I have an interesting memory of the Sachse Ranch. One time Charles "Fuzzy" Partridge and his brother, Robert, and I were taking a hike which turned out to be a long and hot one...........We got up to the road crossing it near the Dondero Ranch and hiked back to the old Sachse house..........

Sachse Monument is a granitoid peak located in the southeastern corner of the Emigrant Wilderness Area, just north of the Yosemite National Park boundary. The peak was named after Charlie Sachse, an early cattleman who mapped out routes in the Emigrant during the late 1800's.

Sachse Monument separates Maxwell Lake from the East Fork of Cherry Creek. It really resembles more of a ridge than a peak and it can be climbed with little effort from the Huckleberry Trail which crosses its NE shoulder.

The surrounding area is quite beautiful and remote, though there is a backcountry ranger cabin in nearby Horse Meadow. Maxwell Lake offers good camping and fishing and makes for an ideal basecamp, as does Huckleberry Lake. He immigrated in 1881.2 He was naturalized before 1896 at Superior Ct., Merced Co., CA.2,3 He appeared on the census of 1900 at Merced Co., CA.4 He appeared on the census of 1920 at Groveland, Tuolumne Co., CA.2 He lived in 1935 at Big Oak Flat P.O., Twp 4, Tuolumne Co., CA.1 He appeared on the census of 1940 at Big Oak Flat P.O., Twp. 4, Tuolumne Co., CA.1
