Rodrick Ward married Marjorie (May) Ward, daughter of Joseph Herbert May and Doris Wilding Love, in 1970; presumed marriage. Rodrick Ward died on 30 December 1995 at Sonora Community Hospital, Sonora, Tuolumne Co., California, at age 71.1,2
     Rodrick Ward was also known as Roderick Bush Ward. Rodrick Ward was also known as Rod Ward. He lived in 1930 at Lake Co., Illinois; by the 1930 census, the family had moved to Illinois where they are enumerated in the census. Marjorie and Rod, who was a private pilot, built a home in PML Unit 12 near the airport where they lived as full-time residents. In 2007 Marjorie was still living there.1

     Marjorie (May) Ward was born on 20 May 1929 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake Co., Utah.1,3 She was the daughter of Joseph Herbert May and Doris Wilding Love.2 Marjorie (May) Ward married Rodrick Ward, son of Fred Hopkins Ward and Bernice (Bush) Ward, in 1970; presumed marriage. Marjorie (May) Ward died on 30 November 2012 at Sonora, Tuolumne Co., California, at age 83.4
     Marjorie and Rod, who was a private pilot, built a home in PML Unit 12 near the airport where they lived as full-time residents. In 2007 Marjorie was still living there.1 She was Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Counselor. in 1978 at Groveland, Tuolumne Co., California.1 She was a founding member of Helping Hands in 1984 at Groveland, Tuolumne Co., CA; Helping Hands, founding member
A group of citizens in Groveland first met at the Community Hall on November 4, 1982 and formed Helping Hands. The first officers were elected on December 2, 1982. In January of 1984, Helping Hands was granted its non-profit status and received its charter. The first Helping Hands Thrift Store opened on March 17, 1984 in Groveland and has run continually since then, but relocating to larger facilities 3 times.5

Mrs. Ward earned a master’s degree in social work from Columbia University in New York in the 1960s. She worked as a licensed clinical social worker for 45 years until her retirement, though she continued to work with clients until her death.

    She married Rod Ward in 1970. They settled in Santa Clara for a number of years before moving to Pine Mountain Lake in 1983. She volunteered with Helpings Hands Second Hand Thrift Store, the Groveland Yosemite Gateway Museum library and the Groveland Democratic Party. She enjoyed reading and writing and contributed to the Yosemite Highway Herald for many years. She also enjoyed flying and earned her pilot’s license in 1990.

    Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her husband, Rod Ward, and her children Steven Carlisle and Cynthia Foster. She is survived by her son, Craig Carlisle; her siblings, Betsy Campbell, Paul May and Doug May; her grandchildren, Afton Holister, Robin Carlisle, and Luke Carlisle; and one great-grandchild.

    Donations can be made to the Groveland Yosemite Gateway Museum, 18990 Main St., Groveland, CA 95321. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pine Mountain Lake Country Club, 12765 Muller Drive, Groveland. The Neptune Society of Central California is handling arrangements.

    Former Groveland resident Esther Magdalene Ridenour died June 8 at her home in Sonora. She was 81.
    Born in Willow Lake, S.D, to Nordt Olaf and Belle Clark Solem, she was raised in Arlington and Winifred, S.D. She was the fourth of five children.
    She married Wayne Bakke in 1947. The couple had two children. The family moved to Venice in 1952 and later to La Puente where she worked at Occidental Insurance and as a medical assistant for a private practice.
    She went on to marry Patrick Ridenour. The couple lived in Southern California, Groveland, Phoenix and Oregon.
    After her second husband died, she moved to Sonoma in 1998.
    She enjoyed playing golf, bridge and entertaining friends. While living in Sonoma, she was active in the Women’s Club and was a docent for Sonoma’s state parks.
    She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Sonoma.
    Mrs. Ridenour is survived by her children, Connie Boysen, of Susanville, Tom and wife Linda Bakke, of Sonoma; stepson and his wife, Terry and Karen Ridenour, of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Brigitte and husband Mark Foster, of Taylorsville, Wendy Phillips, of Modesto, and Alex Boswell, of Davis; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Donald Solem, of Montana, and Norris Solem, of South Dakota.
    In addition to her parents and second husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Kathryn Shultz and Herb Solem.
    A service has already been held.
    Duggan’s Mission Chapel of Sonoma is handling arrangements.
