Groveland resident Arlis McCarrol Carter died Monday at his home. He was 89.
Born in Sonora, Ark., he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945. He worked as an assistant postmaster in Yosemite National Park until his retirement in 1978.
He enjoyed woodworking, genealogy and working crossword puzzles. He was a member of the Friends of the Library in Groveland.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Kathryn Aston Carter, of Groveland; children and their spouses, David McCarrol and Marcialyn Carter, of Arroyo Grande, Robert Emmett and Karen Carter, of Groveland, and Stephen Bradley Carter, of San Francisco; grandchildren, Christopher Carter, of Simi Valley, Nathan Carter, and his wife, Cindy, of Santa Clara, Joshua Carter, of Ridge Crest, Patricia White, and her husband, Tavis, of Grover Beach, Lon Carter, of Carbondale, Colo., Neil Carter, of Golden, Colo., and Lanie Carter, of Paso Robles; and four great-grandchildren.

Francis Arthur Robert Monnett was born on 15 February 1929 at Oak Park, Illinois.1 He married Jerry (Donarski) Monnett on 3 July 1948 at Oak Park, Illinois.2 Francis Arthur Robert Monnett died on 13 December 2012 at Groveland, Tuolumne Co., California, at age 83.1 He was buried on 29 December 2012 at River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia, Illinois.
He became a tool and die maker in 1947.3 In 1977 he started his own company, Monnett Precision Grinding, which he operated until retirement.3 He was retired at Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii. He recently moved to Groveland to be near family.4

Francis Arthur Robert Monnett died Dec. 13 at his home in Groveland. He was 83.
He was born in Oak Park, Ill., the son of Joseph “Curly” and Lydia (nee Hahn) Monnett.
He married Jerry Donarski on July 3, 1948, at Ascension Catholic Church in Oak Park, Ill. Mr. Monnett owned and operated a tool and die company, Monnett Precision Grinding, in Addison, Ill., for 35 years.
He had been in the tool and die business since 1947. In 1977 he started his own company, Monnett Precision Grinding, which he operated until retirement. He spent most of his retirement in Honolulu, Hawaii, until recently moving to Groveland to be near family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jerry Monnett, his grandson, Bradley Monnett, his sister, Dorothy (nee Monnett) Scheck.
He is survived by his three children and spouses, Linde Breault, of Groveland, Mitchell and Elsbeth Monnett, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Terrance and Elizabeth Monnett, of St. Charles, Ill.; five grandchildren, Michelle Becker, of Seattle, Wash., Breda Elmore, of Fort Huachuca, Ariz., Kristine Farkas, of Chicago, Ill., Marshall Monnett and Ryan Monnett, both of Montgomery, Ill.; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Moss Family Funeral Home in Batavia, Ill. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia.

She enjoyed visiting Disneyland, dancing, boating, cooking, bowling, music and traveling.2 She was graduated circa 1992 at Poway, San Diego Co., California, where she received the President's Award for Academic Achievement; Poway High School.3 She moved about in 1993 with her parents and lived at Groveland, Tuolumne Co., California.4 She was She volunteered at the food bank, Sierra Repertory Theatre and Book Nook and was a member of a garden club. She worked through the WATCH program for more than 12 years. between 1995 and 2012 at Tuolumne Co., California.2
