Joseph Musante was born in 1834 at Italy.
He The Musante Chronicles, A Historical Record of an Italian Family
by Marilyn A. Roberts
The Coulterville Connection
While Celeste Musante's family relocated from the gold country to San Francisco, other Musante families appeared in the Sierra foothills in Mariposa County around Coulterville. There were also Castagneto families in the same area from the early 1850's. Although there is ample information on those families once they arrived in California, their place of origin in Italy is a mystery and poorly documented. Therefore, I was able to establish a relationship of only one of those families to Celeste Musante and Anna Castagneto, although, I believe they were all cousins. Some information on a few of those people is included here.
In the early 1850s, a man by the name of Geroge Coulter established a settlement and post office in Mariposa County near Maxwell Creek. He called his settlement Coulterville and it lay atop one of the richest veins of the Mother Lode. In no time, the site was a boomtown as miners came by the hundreds looking for their fortune. Not all those who passed there, however, looked for riches in the mines, some were shopkeepers and others were farmers. The earliest a probably cousin was found there was about on 25 August 2007.

A Scotts Valley man who recently moved to Groveland became the 34th person killed on Tuolumne County roads this year when his pickup overturned on Old Priest Grade Road yesterday morning.
The California Highway Patrol said this morning that Thomas Arthur Wyckoff, 56, was driving west - down Old Priest Grade - about 7 a.m. yesterday when, for unknown reasons, he drifted out of his lane and hit a dirt hillside. Wyckoff was close to the top of the grade when the accident occurred, the report said.
The impact caused the truck to overturn onto its right side and slide off the road. The truck rolled once as it went over the steep canyon embankment and landed about 20 feet from the top of the road, the report said.
Officer Tom Wills said the 1994 Toyota pickup's cab was crushed, and Wyckoff was pronounced dead at the scene.
Since the year began, there have been 24 accidents on county roads, resulting in 34 fatalities. Wills said he went back over CHP records going back to 1970 and found that 2003 has been the year with the most deaths.
"Twice in other years, 25 people died, but this year has been the worst year," Wills said.
Two of the fatal accidents happened in Sonora on Stockton Road. The remainder were outside city limits.
Wyckoff's driver's license listed a Scotts Valley address. However, a spokeswoman for the Yosemite Vista Estates Homeowners' Association said Wyckoff purchased a house two weeks ago in the subdivision about seven miles off Ferretti Road.
