Matthew Champange, I believe a graduate student but possibly an instructor, from North Carolina State Universary, is doing research in what would currently be termed the LGBT area during the Gold Rush era - occurance, acceptance or discrimination, etc. He was specifically asking us about Chaffee and Chamberlain as a part of his research. He had quite a bit info already.

He also was asking for more info on “Ace” Beck who took some of the photos made into post cards of the Bret Harte Cabin and Chaffee and Chamberlain there. He wondered how he happened to be taking those photos and why they were made into postcards? He was New Tag.2 He lived in 1900 at Spanish Fork, UT; w/parents & siblings.4 He lived in 1910 at Spanish Fork, UT; w/parents & siblings.5 He lived in 1917 at Salt Lake Co., UT; single/miner.6 He lived in 1920 at Churchill Co., NV; single/miner.7 He lived between 1928 and 1932 at Sacramento Co., CA; w/wife Mable.8 He appeared on the census of 1930 at Sacramento Co., CA; house painter.9 He lived in 1933 at Groveland, Tuolumne Co., CA.10 He lived in 1934 at Groveland, Tuolumne Co., CA; w/wife Mabel.11 He lived in 1940 at Jawbone, Tuolumne Co., CA; own/operate resort.12 He lived in 1942 at 2nd Garrote, Tuolumne Co., CA.13 He lived in 1944 at Groveland, Tuolumne Co., CA; when mother died.10

Mrs. Nancy Blagg was born circa 1815 at Tennessee.2 She married Elijah Blagg, son of Mr. Placeholder Blagg, circa 1832; They settled in Franklin Co., Arkansas where al their children were apparenatly born. Nancy was born in Tennessee. Where were they born?
Mrs. Nancy Blagg Nancy Blagg, mother of Eliza, Elijah and Samuel Blagg, all in Bog Oak Flat 1860 onwards. They came to the country from Franklin Co. Arkansas 1850-1860. Nancy may well be buried in Stockton for in 1900 she was a patient at the Stockton State Hospital. In 1860 her census name was given as N Redmond, but she had the two youngest Blagg boys living with her. In 1870 she was back to using Nancy Blagg. [BStevens, 13 Apr 2009] She appeared on the census of 1860 as N Redmond at Tuolumne Co., California. The two youngest Blagg sons are living in her home, although this census does not show relationships of members of the household. Living alone in Sonora is James Redmond, a 44 year old Irish-born carpenter whom Nancy may have once married. He is the only other Redmond in Tuolumne County.3 She appeared on the census of 1870.
