Claude McAlee, who was born circa 1881 at Groveland, Tuolumne Co., California, is presumed to be the son of Thomas McAlee and Angeline (Flack) McAlee. They are the only McAlee family in the community; Claude is presumed to be the son of Thomas and Angeline (Flack) McAlee. This is the first available census after his birth; data for Claude is consistent with known data for Thomas and Angeline.2,3 He was the son of Thomas McAlee and Angeline (Flack) Nye McAlee. Les Phelan told Jean McLish in 1978, "One afternoon there was an accident up at the Mt. Jefferson mine. They blew the whistle. Two men were killed: Johnny McCarthy and Claude McAlee.... They were both killed instantly. They had drilled into a missed hole."1,3,4 Claude McAlee was buried on 7 September 1903 at Divide Cemetery, Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., California.5,3

Longtime Pine Mountain Lake resident Violet F. "Vi" (Krukas) Kundrotas died Jan. 31 at a Modesto hospital following an auto accident. She was 82.
Mrs. Kundrotas was born in Chicago and lived in Pine Mountain Lake for 25 years. She was a teacher for many years and also a homemaker. Mrs. Kundrotas was a member of the Pine Mountain Lake Garden Club and the Pine Mountain Lake Ladies Club. She sang in the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church choir and the Pine Cone Singers. She was also on the board of the Southern Tuolumne County Historical Society.
Mrs. Kundrotas was preceded in death by her husband, Al Kundrotas in 1991.
She is survived by her sister, Dolores Batina, of Indian Head Park, Ill.; nephews and their spouses, Craig and Mary Batina, of Hinsdale, Ill., and Andrew and Susan Batina of Wheaton, Ill.; and many grand nephews and nieces.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. March 7 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Big Oak Flat. Donations in her name may be made to the Southern Tuolumne County Historical Society, P.O. Box 1849, Big Oak Flat, CA 95305.

Life-long Groveland resident Andrew James Katosic died unexpectedly at his home on Friday. He was 16.
He was born in Sonora. Known as "AK" to his friends and coaches, he was a senior at Tioga High School, where he was an honor student and athlete, and was adored by his classmates and school staff members.
He was the lead golfer for Tioga High and had played soccer all of his life. He had also played baseball and basketball. He loved his family, friends, playing sports and the outdoors. He spent the past summer working as a recreation aide on the Stanislaus National Forest.
He is survived by his mother, Candace Katosic, of Groveland, and David Katosic, of Sonora; a grandfather, Robert Kinsinger, of Twain Harte; a grandmother, Olga Katosic, of Cleveland; aunts, Lisa K. VanHoven, of Grand Rapids, Mich., Evyn R. Moss, of Cleveland, Barbara Katosic, of Denver, uncles, William Kinsinger, of Twain Harte, and James Katosic, of The Woodlands, Texas; cousins, Christopher and Justin Kinsinger, both of San Francisco, and Lydia, Frances and Grace VanHoven, all of Grand Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Sylvia K. Kinsinger; and his grandfather, Thomas J. Katosic.
A celebration of life will begin at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Tenaya Elementary School gymnasium. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Tioga High School Athletic Program.
