(Robinson) Hall Woodruff on 26 November 1868 at Tuolumne Co., California.5 John Woodruff died on 21 July 1885 at Tuolumne Co., California.6 He was buried at Divide Cemetery, Plot 160, Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., California.7
     He appeared on the census of 1850as a 21-year-old male in the household of Earl Woodruff at East Machias, Washington Co., Maine. John was employed as a laborer.8 John Woodruff appeared on the census of 1860as a 30-year-old male miner in the household of Earl Woodruff and Sally (Hadley) Woodruff at East Machias, Washington Co., Maine. It is important to know that the census taker came to this Maine household on 12 June 1860.9 John Woodruff appeared on the census of 30 July 1860 at Big Oak Flat, 4th Township, Tuolumne Co., California, The three men were cousins. John Woodruff and Joseph Snowball were first cousins, while Charles Ayers was somewhat more distantly related. His grandmother, Mary (Hadley) Stevens, was likely an older sister of John's mother, Sally (Hadley) Woodruff.10 He and Thankful P. Burden mortuary records indicate he was buried on 1 September 1920 at Big Oak Flat.5,6

She was born October 1, 1893, in San Francisco and came to Roseburg six years ago to make her home. She was a member of Plasser Chapter No. 49, Order of Eastern Star, of Dutch Flat, Calif; a member of the Order of The Beauceant of Portland Assembly No. 41 and was a past noble grand and a past district deputy of Big Oak Rebekah Lodge No. 259 of Big Oak Flat.4

Charles L. Harper, came to California in 1853 from his native Philadelphia, at the age of 31, travelling by way of the Isthmus of Panama. After working in the redwood lumber industry which had started in San Mateo County, he set out in May 1854, following the Tuolumne river in search of gold. Eventually, he arrived at Big Oak Flat where he mined and worked as a carpenter. In 1872, he was married to the late Ellen McLaughlin of Big Oak Flat. Their two sons never married.3,1 Charles L. Harper was also known as Charles Harper.4 He lived in 1853 at San Francisco, CA; Crossed Isthmus of Panama.7 He lived in 1877 at Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., CA.8 He (an unknown value) in 1880 at Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co, CA. He appeared on the census of 12 June 1880 at Hites Cove, Mariposa Co., CA. He was working as a wheelwright and enumerated in the household of Reuben Branson. Hite's Cove is along the South Fork of the Merced River some 5-7 miles upstream from its confluence with the main stem of the Merced. By 2008 it was still readily described as remote, rugged and rural; Famiy in Big Oak Flat.9,10 He was carpenter between 1886 and 1887 at Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., CA.11 He witnessed the death of Charles F. Harper on 15 April 1958 at Tuolumne Co., California.12,13,1

He and his late brother, Edwin F. Harper, who died last October, had lived and worked together for many years. As carpenters, they built the well known Groveland Hotel in Groveland and mined together during the boom days following the gold strike at Tonopah, Nevada, soon after the turn of the present century.
The brothers were noted for their collection of gold leaf specimens which they took from their mine below Big Oak Flat on Priest Grade, and were winners several times at the California State Fair and other exhibitions where it was displayed. with Charles F. Harper.5 Edwin Harper and Charles Francis Harper were on 15 September 1894 at Grizzly-Eureka Mine, Priests, Tuolumne Co., California.6 Edwin Harper lived on 13 October 1900 at Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., California, as noted by the Union Democrat commenting on his visit to Sonora on 9 October, 1900.7 He was a member of member of the Yo Semite Lodge, IOOF between 1901 and 1957 at Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., California.8 Charles P. Hall was a member of Rebekah Lodge No. 259. on 16 November 1901 at Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., CA.9 On 16 November 1901 Edwin Harper was a member of the Big Oak Rebekah Lodge No. 259 at Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., California.10 He was in 1904 at Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., California.11 He was a witness Fire destroys much of Big Oak Flat with Emanuella (Antonini) Marconi Raggio in July 1904.12 Edwin Harper was in 1914 at Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., California.13 He witnessed the association of James John Lumsden Sr on 31 July 1915 at Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co; Member of IOOF #97.14 Ed Harper of Big Oak Flat, a strong man again and the picture of good health after a long illness, was meeting his Sonora friends this week.

The property comprises two claims, on each of which considerable work has been done. The gold is found in black slate at the contact with or near small dikes of intrusive rock, which cut the formation.      Charles F. Harper was born on 24 February 1874 at Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., California.1,2,3 He was the son of Charles L. Harper and Ellen C. (McLaughlin) Harper.1 Charles F. Harper died on 15 April 1958 at Tuolumne Co., California, at age 84.1,2,3 He was buried on 21 April 1958 at Divide Cemetery 5:107, Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., California.1,4
     He Brief Bio:

He and his late brother, Edwin F. Harper, who died last October, had lived and worked together for many years. As carpenters, they built the well known Groveland Hotel in Groveland and mined together during the boom days following the gold strike at Tonopah, Nevada, soon after the turn of the present century.
The brothers were noted for their collection of gold leaf specimens which they took from their mine below Big Oak Flat on Priest Grade, and were winners several times at the California State Fair and other exhibitions where it was displayed.3 Charles F. Harper was also known as Charles Francis Harper.5,3 He and Edwin Harper were on 15 September 1894 at Grizzly-Eureka Mine, Priests, Tuolumne Co., California.6 Charles F. Harper Charles & Edwin owned/worked the Grizzly and Eureka pocket mines (below new Priest Grade) between 1895 and 1958 at Grizzley Gulch, Tuolumne Co., California. He and Michael E. Phelan Partners-Grotto Saloon in April 1900 at Big Oak Flat, CA.7 Charles F. Harper was in 1904 at Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., California.8 He was in 1914 at Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., California.9 He witnessed the death of Maxine (Dies) Henington in 2017 at Tuolumne Co., CA.10

    They were owners of the Harper Brothers Mine and resided in Big Oak Flat all their lives.
    Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Emma Dies of Sonora, a nephew, Albert Dies of Browns Flat, a niece, Mrs. Maxine Hennington of Sonora.

    Funeral services for Charles Francis Harper, 84, a native and lifelong resident of Big Oak Flat, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Odd Fellows Hall building at Big Oak Flat. The Rev. T. Wesley Osborne of Groveland will officiate. Interment will be in the family plot in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Big Oak Flat. The Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements....

  6. [S1036] State Mineralogist J J Crawford CA Journal of Mines & Geology, p 480 - Girzzly-Eureka Mine (Quartz) -- It is 1/4 mmile N of Priests. The property comprises two claims, on each of which considerable work has been done. The gold is found in black slate at the contact with or near small dikes of intrusive rock, which cut the formation. Considerable gold was also found along a fault that had dislocated a small quartz vein. The displacement was only a few inches. Two men are employed. Harper Bros. of Groveland, owners.
