George Dickens died in February 1979 at Sonora, Tuolumne Co., California, at age 74.1 He was buried after February 1979 at Divide Cemetery 3:449, Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., California.3
He lived in 1940 at Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne Co., CA; single/gold mine maintenance.4 He was (an unknown value) in 1942 at Eagle Shawmut Mine, Chinese Camp, CA.5 He was retired circa 1969 from at Hetch Hetchy Water and Power, Moccasin, Tuolumne Co., California. He took many photographs of the construction of the "new" Moccasin Powerhouse, which went into service in 1969. They are now part of the Hetch Hetchy collection, housed in the Moccasin Archives.
After the Hetch Hetchy Railroad went out of service, George Dickens acquired Railcar #24. He and his wife are said to have lived in it for a period. Later, the railcar was used as a chicken coop. Mark Thornton acquired the car for the Groveland Community Services District circa 1983. About 10 years later it was moved to Hetch Hetchy's Old Moccasin Powerhouse where it was dismantled in preparation for restoration. Restoration work was never begun, and by 2007 the skeleton of Railcar #24 was still sitting in the Old Moccasin Powerhouse.6
